6th sense technology era
What Mistry came up with is really a unique technology which really does not have any rivals in the market. It is a system first developed by another MIT student back in 1990's but Mistry is the one who actually could move the technology into daily use and make it a profitable innovation for the company he works for. There are not any competitors with the same technology but there are similiar technologies which could be a threat for Mistry's 6th sense technology.
Augmented Reality
Augmented Reality is a term in which " a live direct or indirect view of a physical real-world environment whose elements are augmented by virtual computer-generated sensory input such as sound or graphics"
(Sharma, 2012)
. Basically, a user is able to see the facts and artificial information about a certain place, picture, sports game, weather "in real time and in semantic context with environmental elements"(Sharma, 2012). The main difference between the 6th sense technology and the augmented reality is that in augmented reality technology the user needs a device which he/she will put the information by hand-typing or using touch-screen. Unlike, the 6th sense technology allows users to apply the same situation with the help of his/her thoughts as he/she just thinks about it. There are also a few similarities between these two technologies. First, they are both in the process of being made and published to people's use. Second, they both mix up the technology into every second of our lives. Last but not least, it is being questioned by the authorities whether or not it effects the personal privacy like the 6th sense technology.
Gesture recognition
Gesture recognition appears to be the closest technology to the 6th sense technology. Gesture recognition is a big innovation within the language technology era and it is a "topic in computer science with the goal of interpreting human gestures via mathematical algorithms"(Sharma, 2012). Gesture recognition can be considered one of the first technological innovations that understands the motions of humans and therefore it is somewhat similiar to the 6th sense technology. Gesture recognition is a "computer interaction through the drawing symbols with a pointing device cursor" which throws the keyboard and mouse into the trash with its technology (Sharma, 2012). There are a few similarities and differences between these two technologies. The main difference is that gesture recognition is being sold in various types in today's market which are mainly entertainment based. Being mostly an entertainment device differs the product from 6th sense technology because the 6th sense pursues to gain access to people's every single moment in their life.
